Showtime has launched the official pay-per-view commercial spot for the August 26 fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, and it’s one of those things where two fighters walk from opposite sides and then look at each other at the end.
We are now mere weeks away from this fight, which like most fights had peak buzz when it was announced, but unlike other fights, achieved PEAKER! buzz when they did their press tour, but even by the end of that there was some concern about overkill.
The latest word is that tickets aren’t exactly flying, in part because they’re obscenely expensive, so the people taking this very seriously as a great insult to the boxing world have had some fodder for discussion.
I am personally choosing mostly to let the hype wash over me. Gotta talk about it, obviously, but not letting myself get very invested in it, and this is a path that has served me pretty well, I find. It’s all so goofy and outside the box that I can’t get a proper handle on it, anyway, so I figure just let it all happen, and then it’ll be over, and what I expect to happen is going to happen, and that’ll be that.
