Josh Taylor made it 10 out of 10 as a professional today in Glasgow, adding the WBC silver junior welterweight title to his Commonwealth belt, stopping Ohara Davies in the seventh round of what became quite the grudge match in the buildup.

Taylor (10-0, 9 K) dropped Davies (15-1, 12 KO) in the third round, and then twice more in the seventh, before referee Howard Foster called a halt to the fight. It’s a big win in what was a tough matchup on paper, pitting two legitimate prospects in the 140 pound division, early in each man’s pro career.

Taylor, 26, is now perhaps being prepped for a showdown with countryman Ricky Burns, the 34-year-old former titleholder at 130, 135, and 140 pounds, who lost his most recent fight to Julius Indongo, and quite convincingly at that.

That would be a big crossroads fight in Scotland, however, even if Burns is past his peak, and a win over Burns, a battle-tested veteran, would be another step toward a world title shot, which seems coming sooner than later for Taylor.
