One of the (myriad) issues with boxing tournaments is that one injury can derail the whole thing. Luckily, the World Boxing Super Series is taking steps to address this. Krzysztof Glowacki and Matesusz Masternak will serve as reserves for Mairis Briedis vs. Mike Perez and Murat Gassiev vs. Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, respectively, fighting on the undercards and ready to step up if needed.

Glowacki (27-1, 17 KO), the former WBO champ, rebounded from his September 2016 loss to Oleksandr Usyk with a fifth-round stoppage of unbeaten Turk Hizni Altunkaya in June. Glowacki was expected to be part of the tournament proper, but Perez got the final slot.

He’ll be in action on September 30th in Riga.

Masternak (39-4, 26 KO) has been in a state of “almost” since his TKO loss to Grigory Drozd in 2013, dropping close decisions to Youri Kalenga, Johnny Muller, and Tony Bellew. He was last seen beating Ismayl Sillakh on the same card on which Glowacki beat Altunkaya.

Gassiev vs. Wlodarczyk does not yet have a date or location.
