After forfeiting his IBF 130-lb title on the scales, Gervonta Davis (19-0 18KO) failed to meet hype while gaining a disputed 8th round knockout over rugged Costa Rican Francisco Fonseca (19-1-1 13KO).
Davis, 22, took far more punches than expected from his challenger and appeared sluggish throughout in the night’s co-main event. A co-main event that ended when Fonseca was hit with an uncalled punch behind the head, and was unable to answer referee Russell Mora’s ten count.
Following Fonseca’s first first professional loss, the IBF Super Featherweight title remains vacant.
Now freshly removed from a bout best consigned to memory, the showboating and hammer-fisted Davis is rumored to join the 135 lb ranks in his next outing.
