During yesterday’s media workout Marcos Villegas of FightHub asks Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya how he would approach a fight with Gennady Golovkin. Here’s what Oscar had to say on the topic:
“Fight [Golovkin] at his own game. Pressure him, go forward, take his punches, hope that those punches don’t hurt and knock you out...You have to, yeah, use your intelligence but you have to fight fire with fire.”
On Canelo noticeably bulking up for this fight:
“He has a great trainer. He has the speed, the speed is amazing. I’ve seen him train several times. But he’s finally a middleweight. He’s finally filled into a middleweight so this is exactly what why this fight is taking place now, because we were waiting for Canelo to build up as a middleweight and he’s finally done it.”
On what Canelo has most impressed him with in training camp:
“His speed and his footwork. It’s amazing. He’s looking fast, he’s looking light on his feet so that’s exactly what he’s gonna need with a lot of aggressive combinations...like I said, you have to fight fire with fire and I believe that we’re going to see an exciting fight come September 16th.”
