The Nevada State Athletic Commission has just issued a two-month medical suspension to Conor McGregor following his 10-round stoppage loss to Floyd Mayweather over the weekend. ESPN reports that McGregor has been banned from competition through October 26 and would like him to keep away from ‘contact’ through October 11th.
Really this isn’t at all a big deal as it’s not like McGregor was going to fight within the next two months anyway, and these medical suspensions are actually pretty standard practice after taking a stoppage loss.
McGregor took right hand after right hand from Mayweather from about the middle rounds until the inevitable ending in the 10th where McGregor was heavily fatigued and stumbling all around the ring. The referee, Robert Byrd, clearly saw that McGregor had nothing left to offer in the fight and stepped in to call it off before McGregor could take any more punishment.
McGregor’s next move is up in the air at this point, but the UFC has a PPV date scheduled for December 30, and some speculate that could mark McGregor’s return to mixed martial arts.
