Bellew says he’s closer than ever to Ward fight

Last week it appeared that a Bellew-Ward fight was a no-go, but this week it’s a different story.

Tony Bellew’s next move seems to be a fluid situation. Last week it was reported that he was closing in on his next opponent and that opponent wouldn’t be Andre Ward. But now Bellew tells WBN that negotiations to stage a fight with Ward is closer than it’s ever been.

“We’ve sat down with Andre Ward’s team and I’m a lot closer now to the Andre Ward than I ever have been before.

“I like the Andre Ward fight. The numbers didn’t match up at first but then Eddie worked out a way where it can work favorably for what I want.”

So although Bellew says he’s just to big and strong for Ward — saying he would walk through him like a train — Bellew also continued by saying that he’s still contemplating a fight with heavyweight titlist Joseph Parker as well. He mentions that no amount of money could make up for the chance at becoming a heavyweight champion of the world.

But if that doesn’t come pan out for whatever reason, we might finally get to see Pretty Ricky Conlan take on Danny Wheeler after all.
