Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t being coy about his pursuit of Carl Frampton, who just recently split with former promoter Barry McGuigan. Hearn very much wants to re-sign Frampton, whom he worked with earlier in his career, as he tells Sky Sports that they have unfinished business together.
"I am not going to lie about it, and be sneaky, or make a snide approach. If Carl Frampton is a free agent, I want to work with him," he told Sky Sports.
"I've got the feeling there is unfinished business. I never got the opportunity to do what I could've done with Carl Frampton but that's over, that's history.
"Now we look at the future and the future is Carl Frampton is a massive box office star and is a great fighter. I can get him the fights he craves. I can pay him the money that he wants and I want to work with him.”
Hearn goes on to say that he believes he can deliver Frampton a rubber match against Leo Santa Cruz, which he says Frampton fancies the most, while also not ruling out another possible fight with Scott Quigg who himself has moved up to featherweight.
There’s also a potential fight with Lee Selby out there, but Hearn does admit that even if he signed Frampton, a Selby title fight wouldn’t be in play for Anthony Joshua’s next potential card in Cardiff.
