Just weeks after his destructive win over Nathan Cleverly, Badou Jack has been ordered by the WBA into a purse bid with Dmitry Bivol.

Jack (22-1-2, 13 KO) won the WBA light heavyweight title from Cleverly on August 26, part of the Mayweather-McGregor PPV undercard, and Bivol (11-0, 9 KO) is the interim champion for the WBA.

Cleverly had been ordered to face Bivol already, but was instead granted the opportunity to face Jack, who now must take up those obligations, despite his desire to face WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.

The purse bid is slated for September 25 in Panama City.

Jack, 33, could in theory vacate his title if he can make a deal to face Stevenson instead, and both fighters are under Al Haymon’s PBC banner, so in theory the fight is doable. There’s no indication that Jack would want to give up his belt, but it’s a possibility.

Bivol, 26, is one of the rising stars of the 175-pound division, and last fought on June 17, hammering Cedric Agnew and stopping the former title challenger in the fourth round.
