As you’ve surely seen by now, there was a very weird bit at today’s London weigh-in for tomorrow’s fight between Billy Joe Saunders and Willie Monroe Jr, where Saunders’ son punched Monroe in the groin and kicked at him before being pulled away.

The incident, of course, has gone semi-viral, because it’s kinda funny on the surface, but the fighters have responded, and Monroe’s story isn’t a pretty one.

From his Instagram:

There’s a part of me that can’t help but assume this was some sort of stupid stunt, as the kid seemingly was directed into place when the time was right, after both fighters had weighed in. But none of this bit with the kid accounts for what Monroe is saying about other problems he’s encountered.

Saunders defended his son on Twitter by saying that Monroe put his hands on the child first (patting his head after flexing for the cameras):

Either way, this dumb thing has brought some attention to a fight that had very little outside of its ticket buyers, so that’s something.
