Diego De La Hoya was just too good tonight for former bantamweight titleholder Randy Caballero, keeping his undefeated record and taking Caballero’s via wide decision.

Scores were 98-92, 98-92, and 100-90 for De La Hoya, who improves to 20-0 (9 KO). BLH had it 98-92 and 100-90 for De La Hoya, as well. Caballero falls to 24-1 (14 KO) with the loss.

De La Hoya, 23, is the cousin of promoter Oscar De La Hoya, but has earned his keep thus far as a professional, not simply living on his famous last name. This was a decent step up in competition for him on paper, and he delivered in a big way, taking Caballero apart and punishing him down the stretch.

Caballero, 26, briefly held the IBF bantamweight title in 2014, but failed to make weight for his first scheduled defense, and was stripped of the belt. His inactivity — he’d had just two fights after 2014 before this one — may have played a role in the loss.
