Daniel Jacobs, former middleweight titleholder, and the man who gave Gennady Golovkin pretty much all he could handle in a narrow loss this past March, got his name out there on social media for tonight’s fight between Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez, tweeting the following:
Good luck to my next opponent! pic.twitter.com/zs5rtxI07X

Jacobs (32-2, 29 KO) might have gotten an immediate rematch with Golovkin if not for the fact that Golovkin finally landed his big money fight with Canelo. Golovkin-Jacobs was that close and certainly a good enough fight that running it back would have made sense.
But now he’s on the outside looking in, at least for the moment, and in all truth, even though he’s as good an opponent as either Canelo or GGG could probably find other than one another, Jacobs might be behind Miguel Cotto in terms of preference for the winner’s next fight, too. Cotto is worth more money, has a bigger name, and is frankly not as threatening an opponent, as an older, smaller man on his way out of the sport.
Cotto, of course, has stated clearly and repeatedly that he wants to fight the Canelo-GGG winner on December 2, in what he plans to be his final fight as an active boxer.
