Yildirim’s trainer: Eubank Jr. just a cheap version of Mayweather

Ahmet Öner says his “Rambo” is ready to go to war October 7.

As Avni YIldirim (16-0, 10 KOs) prepares for his opening quarterfinals match against Chris Eubank Jr. (25-1, 19 KOs) in the World Boxing Super Series, Yildirim’s trainer Ahmet Öner says he has no worries heading into the match. In fact Öner is even likening his fighter to John Rambo — fully ready for action.

“Our relationship is like a colonel and a soldier,” said Ahmet Öner. “Sometimes I call him John Rambo, and I am Colonel Trautman. He is my Rambo, I made him and I am very happy with what I’ve made.”

“I do not fear Eubank Jr. He has nothing to stop Avni. Eubank is a kid, a spoiled kid who thinks he is a brave tough guy, he is not. His father was an actor and a fighter with good power punches. Eubank Jr. has good movement, but he has no power. Eubank Jr. is a cheap version of Floyd Mayweather. He thinks he is Mayweather, but he is not,” said Öner.

Eubank Jr. is most recently coming off a wide decision win over a long-ago-faded Arthur Abraham in July after taking one previous fight in the super middleweight division where he won an IBO title.

Yildirim, meanwhile, is most recently coming off a unanimous decision win over Marco Antonio Periban back in May. Eubank Jr. will probably be the most athletically talented fight Yildirim has faced thus far in his career, but we’ll just have to see if Yilidrim is up to the task.

Yildirim and Eubank Jr. will be squaring-off at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany on October 7th.
