Shawn Porter has Danny Garcia in his crosshairs

Porter says he’s not aiming for anyone except Garcia.

Former welterweight titleholder Shawn Porter (27-2-1, 17 KOs) has been out of action since this past April when he stopped Andre Berto in nine rounds. Now, with nothing on the horizon for the immediate future as Keith Thurman recovers from an elbow injury, Porter tells RingTV that he’s focusing all of his attention on Danny Garcia.

“We’re going to let everybody in this world know, especially Danny Garcia, that Shawn Porter isn’t aiming for anybody but you,” Porter (27-2-1, 17 knockouts) told RingTV.com. “There’s nowhere you can go. You already fought the top guy (losing to Thurman in March). Now you need to fight the next best guy out there.”

The fight should be a relatively easy bout to make from a business standpoint, as both Porter and Garcia are aligned with Al Haymon. But Porter says that although he feels a Garcia fight is a realistic expectation, he believes Garcia cares more about his image than consistently taking on the toughest challenges.

“He’s all about status,” Porter said. “He’s not about being great. He’s not about fighting other great fighters. He’s about making money and being looked at who’s unbeatable and undefeated.

“Well, you’ve already lost one. You can’t be afraid to lose two. You gotta go out there and fight the best and do everything that you claim to be. Show it against the best.”

Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) is most recently coming off of a split decision loss to Thurman back in March in a title unification match where he lost his WBC belt.

Now the WBC is expected to order Porter-Garcia as an interim title fight until world titleholder Keith Thurman returns next year from injury, and it’s certainly one of the better fights to make at welterweight. Let’s get ‘er done!
