Linares vs Campbell: Antonio Orozco overweight, fight canceled

Antonio Orozco has had an HBO-televised fight canceled for the second time in a year.

Tonight’s scheduled HBO co-feature between junior welterweight prospect/contender Antonio Orozco and Roberto Ortiz has been canceled, as Orozco came nowhere near making weight, and didn’t even go to yesterday’s weigh-in.

Orozco, 29, is in familiar territory here, having failed to make weight for another HBO-televised bout last December, when he was to face Fidel Maldonado Jr. That time, struggling to make weight, he was dehydrated and passed out, and the fight was called off.

This time, Orozco (26-0, 17 KO) was reportedly around 147 pounds, seven pounds over the limit, and “did not feel well,” so he declined to even weigh in. Ortiz (35-1-2, 26 KO) was willing to go through with the fight at a new weight, but Orozco turned that down, as well.

Realistically, it sounds like it’s time for Orozco to move up to the welterweight division, and you’d also have to totally understand if going forward, HBO is reluctant to give him any more opportunities.
