In a fight where, quite frankly, nobody did much of anything very effectively, Joseph Parker retained his WBO heavyweight title by majority decision over Hughie Fury, on scores of 114-114, 118-110, and 118-110.
BLH had the fight 114-114, and I will flat out openly admit I had a horrible time scoring this fight.
Fury (20-1, 10 KO) felt he’d done enough to win, and I think the argument can be made, but he boxed on the back foot pretty much the entire fight, and clearly that just did not impress two of the three judges at all. He landed the odd truly effective shot, but was often on the receiving end of one as soon as he did, and mostly he was just a flicking jab and some distance on offense.
Parker (24-0, 18 KO) was more aggressive, but a lot of his aggression was ineffective, as he found himself following Fury around the ring and having a hard time landing. But the fight’s bigger shots definitely came from the defending titleholder, and he closed pretty well in the final two rounds to pull even on my confused card, at least.
How did you score this fight? Is 10-2 for Parker fair or too wide? Was Fury ROBBED? Have your say!
