So being the fashionistas that they are, the WBC has just created a brand new belt for the September 16th winner between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. The sanctioning just released an image of the dual-themed belt yesterday on their Instagram page.
Describing the belt, the WBC wrote:
"Gennady Golovkin will be defending his WBC Green Belt on September 16, and to commemorate this date, which is a Mexican holiday that has become one of the most important ones for boxing, the WBC created this piece of art for the winner. The championship belt remains the green belt, this is an award for the winner of this date."
The WBC seems to have been careful this time to not mention what the belt is made of this time, you know, probably to keep those pesky PETA people off their back, but the WBC is known for their extravagance, so I'm sure it's made of some something special.
