Former welterweight titlist and future Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao reaffirms that he’s not walking away from the sport just yet. And while Pacquiao searches for a suitable fight date that will not interfere with his senatorial duties, reports are surfacing that his team is looking towards a fight against Vasyl Lomachenko, with talks already underway.
Lomachenko is currently the reigning 130lb champion at the moment, and although Pacquiao campaigns at 147, he’s always been a small welterweight who was thought to be better suited for 140lbs.
That being the case, settling on an agreeable weight for these two fighters could prove to be a monumental task. At age 39, color me skeptical that Pacquiao would be both willing and able to get down to a 135lbs in an attempt to bridge the gap. Likewise, it seems highly unlikely that Lomachenko would be willing to move all the way up to 140 so quickly.
Perhaps the two could potentially agree to a catchweight somewhere in the middle, but the idea still seems like a bit of a stretch (at least to me). But that’s the word on the street, anyway.
