Ivan Baranchyk vs. Anthony Yigit set for March 9th

The fight will determine the IBF’s mandatory super lightweight champion

No purse bid needed.

IBF #4 and #3 super lightweights Ivan Baranchyk and Anthony Yigit have come to terms for their ordered eliminator. The two will duke it out on March 9th, likely on Showtime alongside the WBC tournament bout between Viktor Postol and Regis Prograis.

The winner becomes the mandatory challenger for the winner of the now-delayed Mikey Garcia-Sergey Lipinets fight.

Baranchyk (17-0, 10 KO) remains undefeated, but has gone the distance four straight times after eight consecutive knockouts. If BoxRec is to be believed, this will be his seventh consecutive appearance at Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. Yigit (21-0-1, 7 KO), who went 3-0 in 2017, will be making his first appearance outside of Europe.

Honestly, Postol (29-1, 12 KO) vs. Prograis (20-0, 17 KO) strikes me as the bigger story here. It was ordered a while back, but it seems like the more important news. Postol, once the division’s #2 behind Terence Crawford, is a technical marvel but looked seriously vulnerable against Jamshidbek Najmiddinov last September after 14 months away. Prograis, meanwhile, has some serious momentum behind him after devouring Joel Diaz Jr. last June.
