Egis Klimas, the manager for Vasyl Lomachenko, has quickly shot down reports from the Philippines that Manny Pacquiao is in talks to fight the man favored by some as the pound-for-pound ruler at the moment.
“No, we are not fighting Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao is calling out Lomachenko, who is three weight classes down the scale from him. Manny Pacquiao is 147 pounds and he’s calling out Lomachenko, who is 130 pounds. That’s insane.”
“The next thing you know, you’ll have Gennady Golovkin calling out Lomachenko to fight. It would be like [light heavyweight titlist and Klimas client] Sergey Kovalev calling out to fight Manny Pacquiao. It’s ridiculous.”
Klimas added that not only have there been no discussions for Pacquiao-Lomachenko, but that it flat out does not interest Lomachenko, as Pacquiao is “an old man and Lomachenko beating him takes him nowhere.”
So that’s probably that, at least for now. The more you add up Pacquiao’s comments and whatnot since losing to Jeff Horn, the more it comes off like a politician just making stuff up to get headlines.
