Kenichi Ogawa suspended after failed drug test

Ogawa reportedly tested positive for synthetic testosterone.

The Tevin Farmer-Kenichi Ogawa saga has taken another turn. After controversially edging the favored Farmer on December 9th, Ogawa has tested positive for synthetic testosterone. He faces a hearing in the near future which could result in the fight being overturned and/or Ogawa being stripped of his IBF super featherweight title.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a reputable pundit who scored the fight for Ogawa (23-1, 17 KO), who was on the wrong end of the punch stats and seemed fairly outclassed by Farmer (25-5-1, 5 KO). Those of you who are fond of karmic retribution may be fond of this story, although anything could happen at the hearing. As the WBC has shown, these sorts of things can be treated more as guidelines than rules when it comes to laying down the law.
