Errol Spence Jr and Lamont Peterson are good to go for tomorrow night’s Showtime Championship Boxing main event, but there was a snafu on the scales for the co-feature.
Spence (22-0, 19 KO) came in at the divisional limit of 147 pounds, and Peterson (35-3-1, 17 KO) weighed in at 146¾ pounds. Both looked in great shape, and that’s the good news.
In the co-feature, Robert Easter Jr (20-0, 14 KO) will defend his IBF lightweight title against former super featherweight titleholder Javier Fortuna (33-1-1, 23 KO). Easter weighed in at 134½, a half-pound under the limit.
Unfortunately, Fortuna weighed in at 136¾, nearly two pounds over the limit. Fortuna has two hours to make weight, and his trainer said they’re confident Fortuna will ultimately make weight. Easter said that he’ll fight whether or not Fortuna does make the weight.
Update: Fortuna has officially failed to make weight, but the fight will go on.
Two more fights will air on Showtime’s YouTube and Facebook pages before the main card doubleheader on Showtime proper.
Light heavyweight prospect Marcus Browne (20-0, 15 KO) will take on Francy Ntetu (17-1, 4 KO) in one of those fights. Browne came in at 175¾, while Ntetu weighed in at 174½. The contract weight for the fight was 176, so both are fine.
For the other prelim bout, heavyweights Adam Kownacki (16-0, 13 KO) and Iago Kiladze (26-1, 18 KO) weighed in at 260 and 220½ pounds, respectively. Kownacki is 18 pounds heavier than he was for his last fight, a July 2017 win over Artur Szpilka.
