Japanese brawler Yoshihiro Kamegai was scheduled to return to the ring on January 27 against Daquan Pauldo, part of the off-TV undercard for HBO’s Matthysse-Kiram event, but after suffering a shoulder injury in camp, Kamegai is out of the fight, according to ESPN.

The 35-year-old Kamegai (27-4-2, 24 KO) hasn’t fought since his August loss to Miguel Cotto, a one-sided beating where the durable Kamegai lasted the 12-round distance, as Cotto won the vacant WBO junior middleweight title.

Kamegai is 6-4-2 in his last 12 fights, dating back to 2012, but he’s become known in the boxing world as a tough, hard-fighting guy you can rely on for action, and that has kept him in the mix at 147 and now 154.

Pauldo (16-1, 9 KO) will still fight on the show, as Golden Boy searches for a new opponent for the 25-year-old, who is on a five-fight winning streak following a 2014 loss to Eddie Gomez.
