The IBF featherweight title fight between champion Lee Selby and top contender Josh Warrington, announced by Frank Warren last month, is signed, sealed, and delivered for May 19th in Warrington’s native Leeds.
The domestic rivals have some bad blood between them and comprise one of the most eagerly anticipated matchups at featherweight, at least in the UK.
Selby (26-1, 9 KO) handily beat Evgeny Gradovich for the belt in 2015 and has enjoyed a fairly well-matched title reign, earning four defenses over the likes of Fernando Montiel, Jonathan Victor Barros, and then-unbeaten Eduardo Ramirez.
Warrington (26-0, 6 KO) has stopped two of his last three opponents, among them an overweight Patrick Hyland. His résumé is anchored by solid wins over Hisashi Amagasa and Kiko Martinez, although the latter was not without some controversy.
Frank Warren and co. would be daft not to load this card up with British talent, so we’ll keep you posted as it comes together.
