Devin Haney’s ShoBox fight canceled

Friday’s ShoBox will now be a tripleheader.

Lightweight prospects Devin Haney and Harmonito Dela Torre were set to meet this Friday night on ShoBox from Sloan, Iowa, but the fight has been scrapped due to Dela Torre having visa issues, meaning the show will now be a tripleheader instead of a four-fight televised bill.

Haney (18-0, 12 KO) is a 19-year-old blue chipper, a seven-time national amateur champion, and someone who has stayed busy after turning pro young. He fought seven times last year, and a shot on ShoBox figured to be something of a launching pad for him — not into the stars or anything, but a chance for him to get going in televised fights.

The rest of the card is still good to go, though, including the main event between super middleweights Ronald Ellis (14-0-1, 10 KO) and Junior Younan (13-0, 9 KO). The other two fights will be eight-round affairs, with Wellington Romero (14-0-1, 8 KO) and Samuel Teah (12-1-1, 5 KO) squaring off in a junior welterweight bout, and Thomas Mattice (10-0, 8 KO) facing Rolando Chinea (15-1-1, 6 KO) in a lightweight fight.
