Ray Robinson vs. Yordenis Ugas joins Garcia-Lipinets

The fight is an eliminator for the #2 spot in the IBF welterweight rankings

Showtime has announced another addition to the February 10th Mikey Garcia-Sergey Lipinets show at the Alamodome: Ray Robinson vs. Yordenis Ugas . The IBF calls the fight an eliminator for the #2 spot in their welterweight rankings, meaning it’s an eliminator for an eliminator. Which is kinda dumb, but whatever.

Ray “Definitely Not That One” Robinson (24-2, 12 KO) has won eleven straight since losing decisions to Brad Solomon and Shawn Porter in ‘09-’10, beating such club luminaries as Doel Carrasquillo and Ray Narh along the way. He was last seen taking a technical decision over what’s left of Breidis Prescott in June.

Once considered a bust, former amateur stud Yordenis Ugas (18-3, 9 KO) dispatched prospects Jamal James and Bryant Perrella to kick off a five-fight winning streak that’s reignited his career. His war with Thomas Dulorme last August was boatloads of fun, so I’ve got high hopes for this one.

The fight, which is “under consideration” to open the Showtime broadcast, joins what’s honestly a pretty damn good undercard consisting of Richard Commey vs. Alejandro Luna and Rances Barthelemy vs. Kiryl Relikh, among others.
