With UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov calling out Floyd Mayweather in an encounter with Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather has been pretty quick to respond, indicating he’s open to boxing the MMA star.

Mayweather, who hasn’t fought since his August 2017 novelty win over Conor McGregor, is “retired” but has not really acted like it. He’s been linked to a potential rematch with McGregor — which is surely now dead now that Khabib has recently defeated McGregor in an instantly infamous UFC main event — and to one with Manny Pacquiao, a fleeting bit of news seemingly because Mayweather wanted attention during Canelo-GGG 2 week.
Anyway, we’ll keep talking about this story to ensure that people searching for news about it have a chance of landing on our site and making our stats look better. Also because, well, look, Mayweather-McGregor actually happened, so we can’t well say that Mayweather-Khabib won’t or can’t or couldn’t possibly. There’s a chance. But wouldn’t that be weird and sort of sad if the greatest boxer of a generation spent his professional twilight years toying with non-boxers?
