As planned, December 1st pay-per-view showdown between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will feature former heavyweight champion Luis Ortiz, whom Wilder defeated in a slugfest this part March. ESPN claims that “King Kong” will likely face veteran Travis Kauffman.
The Ring’s Matt Coppinger reports that the other two slots on the pay-per-view will feature Rio silver medalist Joe Joyce and WBA/IBF super welterweight champion Jarrett Hurd in the latter’s first appearance since having shoulder surgery. Joyce is pushing to finalize a fight with Gerald Washington, while Hurd does not have a prospective opponent as of yet.
Ortiz (29-1, 25 KO) bounced back from the Wilder loss with a second-round knockout of Razvan Cojanu in July. There had been rumblings of him facing Dillian Whyte on December 22nd, but he might instead deal with Kauffman (32-2, 23 KO), who is 14-1 (1 NC) in his last 16 with the sole loss being a majority decision against Amir Mansour.
