This afternoon on his official Twitter account, Canelo Alvarez announced that he’ll be returning to action on December 15, heading to Madison Square Garden to move up in weight and face WBA “world” super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding.

Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KO) is coming off of the biggest win of his career, a controversial and razor-thin decision over Gennady Golovkin on September 15. The quick turnaround was expected after it was announced post-fight that Alvarez wanted to return in December, and now we’ve got the confirmation.

For Fielding (27-1, 15 KO), this is an absolutely massive opportunity. The 31-year-old fighter has a chance to take on arguably boxing’s biggest current star, and he’ll have some advantages on paper as the naturally larger man. He won his belt on July 14, going to Germany and stopping Tyron Zeuge. In his lone loss, he was stopped in the first round by Callum Smith in 2015.

Fielding tweeted this:

Television hasn’t been announced.
