Jose Uzcategui will defend his IBF super middleweight title on Sunday, Jan. 13 against Caleb Plant in the PBC on FS1 main event from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Uzcategui (28-2, 23 KO) has become a top fighter in the 168-pound division in the last couple of years. He had a strong showing in a highly controversial DQ loss to Andre Dirrell in May 2017, and then came back the following March to physically dominate and retire Dirrell in their rematch, claiming the interim IBF title at that time.
He was later elevated to full champion when James DeGale vacated his title. We last saw Uzcategui, 27, on Sept. 28 in Oakland, where he beat Ezequiel Maderna in a 10-round non-title fight.
Plant (17-0, 10 KO) has made some waves as a prospect, and now the 26-year-old Tennessee native will look to graduate to that next level. He fought just once this year, but looked very good in a 12-round rout of Rogelio “Porky” Medina on Feb. 17 in El Paso.
