In this video interview with FightHype, Omar Figueroa talks a bit about his upcoming fight with John Molina and why he expects Errol Spence to steamroll Mikey Garcia. Check out what he had to say...
Figueroa on how he’s feeling as he gets back in action against John Molina:
“I’m excited to have a fight, you know, to finally be back in the ring. I’ve been looking forward to this for so long. After I got injured I went to the doctor to know exactly what’s going on in my shoulder. [He] told me I have a SLAP tear so there’s really not much I can do, it’s already torn. He basically told me that I had to keep training until pretty much I couldn’t, until my shoulder was in too much pain or I just couldn’t move it or whatever — basically said to suck it up.
“So, I’m the best at doing that. I’ve been sucking it up my whole life, all the injuries that I’ve had. But like I said, I’m just excited to be back, I’m excited to be back against a guy like Molina who fits perfectly with my style. And even if he tries to box, it won’t be long until we’re in the phone booth.
“I always prepare as if I were fighting Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, the best of the best, that have ever existed. I just make sure that I’m in shape and my skills take over the rest.”
On saying that he would like to give Errol Spence a shot at redemption [beating Spence as an amateur] and how he sees his fight with Mikey Garcia playing out:
“I think Spence is going to knock Mikey Garcia out. One thing that people don’t realize about Spence is he’s, I could say probably, the strongest fighter that I’ve ever been in the ring with. A close second would be Edwin Valero when I was sparring him in Monterrey...Spence, I feel like he’s a tank. I still feel one of the punches that he hit me win in my back to this day and it’s been 11 years.
“But I mean he’s a great fighter and I would love to fight him again. I think someone like me, I feel like I can beat him again. I know that the pros is a completely different story and I’m not considering the amateur fight that I have over him at all. Obviously I’m smarter than that. I’m just saying I’ve been in the ring with him, shared the ring with him, and we have a bit of history and I feel like it would be a great fight — especially in Texas.”
On what he thinks Garcia sees in Spence to take this fight and what he needs to take advantage of:
“I have no idea!...I just don’t see Mikey stopping Spence, from coming forward or anything. I don’t think he’s gonna have enough power, I don’t think he’s gonna be able to deter Spence from just finishing him off.”
