Tonight at 10 pm ET on HBO, Dmitry Bivol returns to defend his WBA “world” light heavyweight title in a matchup with former champion Jean Pascal in the main event of a doubleheader from Atlantic City.
Bivol (14-0, 11 KO) has been one of the hot rising stars in boxing and the light heavyweight division over the last couple of years, rattling off a series of impressive televised wins, including victories over Sullivan Barrera and Isaac Chilemba in his last two outings. The 27-year-old Russian is the favorite tonight, but he’s facing a dangerous veteran who has nothing to lose, too.
Pascal (33-5-1, 20 KO) has won two straight after a 2017 loss to Eleider Alvarez. Two fights ago, in Dec. 2017, he knocked off then-unbeaten prospect Ahmed Elbiali. He announced a retirement at that time, but came back in July of this year, and is now back on a big stage.
In the co-feature, super bantamweights Murodjon Akhmadaliev (4-0, 3 KO) and Isaac Zarate (16-3-3, 2 KO) will meet in a 10-round bout.
