British boxing fans will have a steady supply of Bunce-free boxing for a while, as Premier Boxing Champions and ITV have joined forces for a three-year broadcast deal.
ESPN reports that there will be “a minimum of 15 televised events each year,” some of which will air alongside stateside Fox and Showtime broadcasts. Others will take place in the U.K. and “won’t necessarily be part of the PBC’s American television coverage.” In addition to the main channel, events will air on ITV4, the online ITV Hub, and ITV Box Office for pay-per-views.
Being a filthy Yank, I’m not in a position to accurately assess this deal qualitatively. Improved access to overseas events is always a good thing, however, even if time zones will limit the crossover viewership somewhat. Now people across the pond can watch the best fighters in multiple divisions fail to fight each other, just the way Al Haymon intended.
