Canelo Alvarez and Rocky Fielding both made weight today in New York, and tomorrow night’s WBA “world” super middleweight title fight looks good to go. The show will stream live on DAZN from Madison Square Garden, the first fight of Alvarez’s blockbuster deal with the service.
Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KO) weighed in at 167.4 pounds, with Fielding (27-1, 15 KO) at 167.6, both a shade under the 168-pound limit for the fight.
There is a second-day weigh-in set for tomorrow morning, with it contractually agreed that neither man can gain more than 10 pounds by that point.
IBF super featherweight titleholder Tevin Farmer (27-4-1, 6 KO) had to strip nude to make weight for his title defense, coming in at 130 pounds on the button. He’ll defend against Francisco Fonseca (22-1-1, 16 KO), who weighed in at 129.4.
IBF and WBA lightweight champion Katie Taylor (11-0, 5 KO) weighed in at 134.25 for her defense against former super featherweight titleholder Eva Wahlstrom (22-0-1, 3 KO), who came in at 133.5.
Former junior middleweight titleholder Sadam Ali (26-2, 14 KO) is moving back down to welterweight, weighing in at the limit of 147 pounds for his fight with veteran Mauricio Herrera (24-7, 7 KO), who came in at 146.
Lightweight prospect Ryan Garcia (16-0, 13 KO) weighed in at 134.8 for his matchup with Braulio Rodriguez (19-3, 17 KO), who came in at 133.2.
As previously reported, the scheduled middleweight bout between David Lemieux and Tureano Johnson has been canceled, as Lemieux was hospitalized with dehydration.
