Well, here we are. Tonight at 10:20 pm ET on HBO, it’s the final boxing card set to air on the network after 45 years in the game.
Tonight’s tripleheader is, with respect to the fighters, not the high-profile card that HBO was best known for over the last four-and-a-half decades. But we’ll be here tonight to say goodbye to what has really been an old friend for many of us as we’ve become boxing fans over our lives.
In the main event, Cecilia Braekhus (34-0, 9 KO) defends her undisputed welterweight championship against Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (18-4-3, 1 KO). Magdziak Lopes is a massive underdog here, as Braekhus is considered to be the world’s best women’s pound-for-pound fighter.
In the co-feature, super flyweight contender Juan Francisco Estrada (37-3, 25 KO) takes a tune-up at super bantamweight against countryman Victor Mendez (28-3-2, 20 KO) in what can be reasonably hoped to at least be a good action fight — and considering it came on short notice, you never know, things happen.
And Claressa Shields (7-0, 2 KO) will defend her three middlweight titles against Femke Hermans (9-1, 3 KO).
All three fights are set for 10 rounds.
Join us tonight as we say goodbye to HBO boxing.
