Vasiliy Lomachenko and Kell Brook are the heavy favorites for today’s fights in New York and Sheffield, both of which we’ll be covering live.
Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KO) meets Jose Pedraza (25-1, 12 KO) in the ESPN main event (9 pm ET) from Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. The 30-year-old Lomachenko moved up to 135 pounds in May of this year, and did have some struggles against Jorge Linares before knocking Linares out in the 10th round.
Lomachenko is also coming off of shoulder surgery, but none of this is enough to worry oddsmakers. Bovada has Lomachenko listed as a huge -3500 favorite against “Sniper” Pedraza, a quality fighter and titleholder, who is listed at +1200.
Super bantamweight titleholder Isaac Dogboe (20-0 14 KO) is listed at -800 for his title defense against Emanuel Navarrete (25-1, 22 KO), who is at +500.
Over in England, Brook (37-2, 26 KO) is an absolutely enormous favorite against tune-up opponent Michael Zerafa (25-2, 14 KO). While Zerafa has won eight straight fights at home in Australia, he’s lost in previous step-up attempts, including a brutal knockout at the hands of Peter Quillin in 2015.
Brook is listed by Bovada at -10000 (ten thousand, not one thousand, that’s not a typo), with Zerafa at +1600.
On that undercard, welterweight prospect Josh Kelly (8-0, 6 KO) is -2000 against former secondary titleholder David Avanesyan (23-3-1, 11 KO), who is at +900. Closer odds are up for the IBF super featherweight eliminator between Jono Carroll (16-0, 3 KO) and Guillaume Frenois (46-1, 12 KO). Carroll is the favorite at -325, with Frenois at +250.
