In the last month or so, there’s been some talk about former super middleweight and light heavyweight champion Andre Ward (32-0, 16 KO) possibly ending his retirement to face reigning undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (16-0, 12 KO).
But Ward, 34 and now a boxing analyst and commentator, says he’s never seen a full Usyk fight.
“Andre Ward is retired,” he noted first, adding, “I don’t know enough about Usyk, man. I just started learning about Usyk in the last six, seven months. I’ve never seen a full fight of his. I saw clips of the Bellew fight. I don’t know much about him. He seems to be a good fighter. He’s getting a lot of buzz and a lot of praise, and kudos to him.”
When asked about former training mate Amir Khan potentially facing Terence Crawford, he said, “Tough fight, bro. Anybody who faces Terence Crawford, it’s a tough night. Doesn’t mean he can’t win, it’s a tough night, though. We’ll see what happens.”
As for Pacquiao-Broner on Jan. 19, Ward remarked, “It’s a tough one for both of them. I like Manny, I like Adrien, I’m gonna sit back and watch that as a fan.”
