Richardson: Terence Crawford’s skills will carry him up in weight

Trainer Nazim Richardson gives his thoughts on Terence Crawford moving up to welterweight.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

In this video interview with Fight Hub TV, one of my favorite people in boxing, trainer Nazim Richardson, explains why Terence Crawford will be successful as he moves up the scales, starting with a welterweight title fight against Jeff Horn.

“You see Crawford moving up is just like Floyd [Mayweather] moving up, is just like when Shane [Mosley] moved up, is just like when Oscar [De La Hoya] moved up. When guys have those kind of styles and that kind of ability — as long as they don’t get ridiculous with the weight, they move up the skills gonna come with ‘em.

“You always hear commentators say so quickly, ‘did the punch move up with him?’ If the skills moved up with ‘em the punch may not be necessary. So Crawford’s skills will carry him up. You know, if a 160-pound dude jumped on Crawford it wouldn’t go easy. If we throw a 160-pounder in here right now with Crawford, the 160-pounder — he would know he was in a fight when he got out that ring! ‘Cause Crawford is just that nice.”
