With both fighters having been victorious in February 10 tune-up bouts, Miguel Berchelt and Mickey Roman now look to be on a collision course for May, with a May 12 date on HBO looking likely, according to ESPN Deportes, who spoke with Zanfer promoter Fernando Beltran about the fight.

Berchelt (33-1, 29 KO) defeated Maxwell Awuku by third round TKO in Cancun on February 10, successfully defending his WBC super featherweight title. Roman (59-12, 46 KO) defeated Aristedes Perez in Juarez the same night, winning by fourth round TKO.

Berchelt, 26, had fought his previous two bouts on HBO before the tune-up, defeating Francisco Vargas in January 2017 to win the WBC belt, and then defending against mandatory challenger Takashi Miura in July.

Roman, 32, also had a pair of HBO bouts in 2017. He lost to Miura in January, the same night Berchelt beat Vargas, then returned in December to upset Orlando Salido in a Fight of the Year finalist. He became Berchelt’s mandatory with that victory.

If the fight does come on May 12, it would receive a big viewership bump on HBO, as it would take place the same night as the Canelo-Golovkin II pay-per-view replay on the premium network.
