Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Juan Francisco Estrada put on a fight and in particular a scintillating 12th round that demands a rematch tonight on HBO, with Thailand’s Srisaket successfully defending his WBC super flyweight title by majority decision.

Scores were 114-114, 115-113, and 117-111 for Srisaket, who improves to 45-4-1 (40 KO), while Estrada falls to 36-3 (25 KO) in a terrific and valiant losing effort. BLH scored the fight 114-114 on two separate cards.

Early on, the fight looked pretty simple, if plenty entertaining. Srisaket, the big tank of a super flyweight, had power and strength on his side, while Estrada, a fantastic counter-puncher, had technique and speed.

But the fight developed into something a lot more than that over the 12 rounds, with Srisaket showcasing some excellent awkward craft for a slugger, and Estrada showing a willingness to take risks and lead the fight when he needed to do so. What we wound up with was a fantastic and compelling fight that at the very least lived up to expectations, and could potentially be the start of a great rivalry.

According to CompuBox, Srisaket landed 194 of 879 (22%) punches, and 186 of 773 (24%) of his power shots, doing almost nothing with the jab at all. Estrada had a slightly better connect rate, landing 189 of 671 (28%) total punches, and 147 of 443 (33%) of his power shots.

“Estrada was a very good fighter, a good, strong fighter. I love his style of boxing. It was a tough fight,” Srisaket said through a translator. He added, “I was very confident that I was winning, but more importantly, I really wanted to bring this belt back to Thailand. To Thailand it goes.”

Asked about a rematch, Srisaket said, “I’ll fight anybody at 115, and I’ll fight Estrada again.”

“The people are the judge, and you can hear they saw me win. I thought I won,” Estrada said through a translator. “If the judges saw it that way, that’s what it is. I thought I won the majority of the rounds. The people saw it. No doubt (I want a rematch), or I’ll fight any other champion.”

How did you score the fight, and do you want to see a rematch at Superfly III?
