Daigo Higa is a terrifying little man.

“The Romagon of Okinawa” was expected to beat #9-ranked contender Moises Fuentes handily, but not this handily. Higa needed less than a round to finish Fuentes and tie the Japanese record for consecutive knockouts.

Higa (15-0, 15 KO) buckled Fuentes (25-5-1, 14 KO) with an overhand right and went to town against the ropes, ultimately sending him to the canvas with a left hook to the body that sounded like a fastball hitting a catcher’s mitt. While on the mat, Fuentes spat out his mouthpiece and waited until near the count of nine to rise, but the referee elected to call it.

You can watch the entire fight here and decide whether the stoppage was warranted.

I am extraordinarily excited to see how far the 22-year-old Higa can go. I’d love to see him fight countrymen Sho Kimura and Kosei Tanaka, Donnie Nietes, or the winner of Brian Viloria vs. Artem Dalakian.
