Showtime on board with Mayweather move to MMA?

Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza is adding to the intrigue of a possible Floyd Mayweather crossover to MMA.

Stephen Espinoza, a lead executive at Showtime Sports, spent a little time during the wee hours of Super Bowl Sunday dropping hints on social media that he’ll somehow be involved in a potential Floyd Mayweather move into mixed martial arts.

The retired boxer has spent the last the better part of the last week teasing fans with short video clips and photos of himself in the octagon — unfamiliar territory for 40-year-old boxer.

What this all amounts to is still anyone’s guess. When it was just Floyd posting these little tidbits, it was easily disregarded as a marketing gimmick of sorts. But now, with a major network executive getting in on the action, one would think there has to be a little bit more to this whole thing.

Naturally, as is Floyd’s custom, he’ll likely drag this out until he’s ready to release some sort of definitive announcement on his upcoming plans. But for now, speculation is all we’ve got.
