In a conversation with Jim White on talkSPORT, boxing/mma writer Gareth A. Davies says he’s hearing that talks to stage a ‘rematch’ between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor — this time in the octagon — are underway.
“My soundings are that there are a lot of talks going on in the background, there are a lot of talks around people with Mayweather.
“There are a lot of talks about him potentially having an MMA fight with Conor McGregor.”
Davies believes a potential MMA fight between Mayweather and McGregor could do big business as fans would be willing to shell out huge bucks just to see Mayweather get pummeled in an MMA fight, and that Floyd would entertain the idea because it would generate him a huge sum of money and wouldn’t affect his perfect boxing record. Davies estimates the potential fight could be worth up to $500M.
Naturally some credence may be given to this report since both Mayweather and Showtime executive Stephen Espinosa have been hinting at the idea of Floyd returning to action under MMA rules. And since nobody thought the first Mayweather-McGregor fight could happen, you can’t completely rule this out as a possibility.
