According to ESPN.com, Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller may have his next opponent. Dan Rafael says that Johann Duhaupas, a former world title challenger, is in line to face the American heavyweight prospect on April 28 on HBO.
Miller-Duhaupas would be the co-feature to Daniel Jacobs’ return, which is expected to be against Maciej Sulecki.
Duhaupas (37-4, 24 KO) would be a decent if not exciting opponent for Miller (20-0-1, 18 KO), who has beaten Fred Kassi, Gerald Washington, and Mariusz Wach in his last three bouts. Like Duhaupas, Washington and Wach are former world title challengers and right about the same level of “former world title challenger,” so this wouldn’t really be a step up, but more a stay-busy fight against someone capable enough to not be a complete pushover.
The 37-year-old Duhaupas has won his last three fights, following a sixth round knockout loss to Alexander Povetkin in 2016. His biggest chance came in 2015, when he was stopped in 11 against WBC titleholder Deontay Wilder, in Wilder’s second defense.
Miller, 29, is a big-bodied heavyweight with power, someone who has gotten some hype. But it remains to be seen whether or not that hype comes from a strong personality and simply being American, or if he has the goods to be a legitimate contender.
