Jones vs Sigmon results: Roy Jones Jr ends boxing career with hometown win

In what he says was the final fight of a legendary career, Roy Jones Jr scored a win in front of his hometown fans in Pensacola, Florida, beating Scott Sigmon by wide decision in front of an appreciative crowd at the Pensacola Bay Center.

Jones won on scores of 98-92 across the board. BLH scored it a 100-90 shutout for Jones, who pretty much dominated the tempo of the fight, which was something to be said for a 49-year-old fighter.

Jones (66-9, 47 KO) never had Sigmon (30-12-1, 16 KO) in serious trouble, but he punished him to the body pretty nicely, and was able to be some approximation of a vintage Roy Jones Jr, entertaining the crowd while doing his work. Sigmon was game and came to win, but the gulf in class between the fighters, even at Jones’ advanced age, was clear.

“I love each and every fan that came out to support me tonight,” Jones said, adding, “I knew Scott was tough, I knew Scott was game, and I knew Scott was gonna keep coming. I don’t make excuses. But last week I tore my biceps in my left arm again. But because it was my last fight in Pensacola, I refused to pull out.”

Jones, 49, also again called out 42-year-old MMA star Anderson Silva, directing his comments to UFC’s Dana White.

“Dana, I know you’re listening. I know Anderson’s suspended. But that’s the only other fight Roy Jones will return to the ring for. Other than that, chapter’s closed.”

On the undercard, Jones-trained Ikram Kerwat improved to 9-1 (5 KO) with an eight-round decision win over veteran Angel Gladney, who fell to 9-14-1 (6 KO), and Pensacola junior welterweight prospect Devin Cushing stayed undefeated, improving to 7-0 (5 KO) with a six-round decision win over Tommy Bryant (3-15-3, 1 KO).
