Kovalev vs Mikhalkin: Fighters make weight for HBO card

All four fighters are set for tomorrow’s light heavyweight doubleheader.

HBO World Championship Boxing is back tomorrow night from Madison Square Garden, and all four fighters for the light heavyweight doubleheader were on weight today in New York.

In the main event, Sergey Kovalev (31-2-1, 27 KO) defends his WBO 175-pound title against Igor Mikhalkin (21-1, 9 KO). Kovalev came in at 174.6 pounds, with Mikhalkin at a trim 172.6, well under the limit, which is the lowest recorded weight of Mikhalkin’s 10-and-a-half-year pro career.

The co-feature pits WBA “world” titleholder Dmitry Bivol (12-0, 10 KO) against top contender Sullivan Barrera (21-1, 14 KO). Bivol tipped the scales at 174.4, with Barrera at 173.6, which is what he weighed in his win over Joe Smith Jr last May, so the relatively low weight is no big surprise for him.

The show starts at 10:05 pm ET on HBO, and Bad Left Hook will have live round-by-round coverage for both fights at that time.
