Keith Thurman was set to return to action on May 19, but now that’s off. The 29-year-old welterweight titleholder has suffered a “deep bruise” on his left hand that will shelf him about six weeks, meaning he’s now targeting a summer return to action.
Thurman (28-0, 22 KO) last fought in March 2017, when he beat Danny Garcia to unify the WBA and WBC 147-pound titles. He underwent elbow surgery after that, taking the rest of the year off.
Much of the attention paid to Thurman in the last six months has been about potentially fighting IBF titleholder Errol Spence Jr, something Thurman has said he’s not ready to do just yet. His May 19 bout was supposed to be a tune-up, something to come back to action with, before getting serious with bigger fights.
There was no opponent named for the fight, either, which was to take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and air on Showtime.
