It didn’t take long for “likely” to become “officially.”
The others on this site have already given y’all the info you need on the first two fights, so let’s consider Davis-Cuellar. The press release says that they’ll fight for the “WBA 130-pound Super World Championship.” One problem: that belt already belongs to Albert Machado, who has a looming purse bid with Rafael Mensah.
Unless the belt got downgraded between Jezreel Corrales losing it on the scales and Machado knocking him out, of course, in which case it would make infinitely more sense to promote Machado and have these two duke it out for the regular title.
But that would be rational, and expecting rationality from a sport in which two people hit each other in the head for half an hour at a time no longer strikes me as wise.
In any event, it’s a quality lineup for Barclays and definitely worth tuning into.
