Amid ongoing efforts to transplant the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight final from Jeddah to Moscow, Oleksandr Usyk has suffered a “minor” elbow injury, delaying his May 11th bout with Murat Gassiev.

The fight will be rescheduled.

Usyk (14-0, 11 KO) and Gassiev (26-0, 19 KO) are both coming off of terrifically entertaining semifinal bouts, Usyk a war with Mairis Briedis and Gassiev a knockout of Yunier Dorticos. The fight between the two is easily one of the most exciting on the schedule, so fingers crossed Usyk’s back in action before long.

If this is indeed legit and not part of some dastardly Russian plot to steal the fight from Saudi Arabia, the delay might actually be a good thing, as it gives George Groves more time to recover from the injury he suffered against Chris Eubank Jr. Mayhaps everything happens for a reason in this wonderful, dumb sport we love.
