I guess it’s properly marinated now.

After defeating their designated victims together on an October show, Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares are finally set to duke it out once again on Showtime.

Hands up if you, like me, completely forgot this was a thing at some point in the last few months.

Santa Cruz (34-1-1, 19 KO) stopped Kiko Martinez and had his great duology with Carl Frampton after comfortably beating Mares (31-2-1, 15 KO) in their 2015 clash, while Mares picked up the regular version of Santa Cruz’s WBA “Super” featherweight title with a split decision over Jesus Cuellar. The aforementioned October show saw Santa Cruz hand Chris Avalos his fourth stoppage loss and Mares all but sweep Andres Gutierrez on the cards en route to a technical decision victory.

We’ll keep you guys informed as the undercard comes together. Meanwhile, I’ll be over here dreaming of Santa Cruz fighting Oscar Valdez. It’s a good dream.
